  • LENT 2016

Ash Wednesday Service 10th February 7pm

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. It goes back at least to the 4th Century; penitents sprinkled themselves with ashes as a sign of penitence and a symbol of their desire to be reconciled.  Soon the church adopted this rite for all Christians as a reminder of our need for continual repentance and the great message of forgiveness and deliverance that comes from the Cross of Christ.

You are very welcome to join us for our special service on Ash Wednesday evening where we will begin Lent together in a time of prayer, hymns and Holy Communion with the opportunity for those who wish to have a cross of ashes signed on their forehead.  For those who are not used to this tradition please join us, this part of the service is entirely optional, you are very welcome to take part or not.

Lent Discovery Groups start Wednesday 17th February

The Lent course this year will be a specially designed series of related meetings based on the “Try Praying” material for churches - visit the Try Praying website here.  Almost every church in Shrewsbury will be getting involved in this churches together project working with each other to encourage our whole community to Try Praying for their own situations.  Each week we will look at different ways of Praying and, using the experiences and gifts of our different speakers, we will hopefully grow in our appreciation of other traditions and grow in confidence in our own prayer life.  You are welcome to attend some or to all of these meetings.
